Less data.
More to discover.
You can explore and share startups without an account. With an account, you can earn points when other people press “Continue to the startup” from your personal sharing links. We do not use advertising tools or social media tracking.
An account without a password
Clerk handles sign-in using one-time email codes. It processes your email address and session data to verify your address and keep you signed in. Sign-in uses cookies. We store an account reference, your chosen username, sharing links and points history in the project’s database.
Your username appears on the pages you share, for example “LuneOter42 thinks you might like WordSea”. You choose a unique username before creating personal sharing links. Feel free to use a nickname. Your email address is never shown on the shared page or to other users.
The all-time leaderboard
Once you have chosen a username and earned points, your username, rank, total points and level appear on the public leaderboard. It updates automatically and has no end date. It uses the same earned points as “My page”, including points from launch day and earlier scoring rules. Your email address, account ID and information about recipients of your tips are not shown.
You can change your username on “My page”. If you delete your account, your name and points are removed from the leaderboard on its next update. The leaderboard is not synchronised with other services or social media.
The launch competition
On launch day, 4 November 2026, chosen usernames and the day’s competition points appear on a public leaderboard, including on the screen at the event. Only confirmed points from 00:00 and before 18:50 Norwegian time count. The results may remain visible after the event. Email addresses, account IDs and information about recipients are not shown. Deleting your account also removes your name and points from the results.
When you open a personal sharing link
Opening a sharing link does not earn points on its own. Pressing “Continue to the startup” can give the sender 50 points. We use a random, signed cookie to recognise the browser and prevent repeated clicks from earning more points. It is called “b2c-referral-visitor”, applies to this website and expires after 365 days. It contains no name or email address and cannot be read by the page’s JavaScript.
The database stores a protected hash of the browser reference, the startup you clicked through to and the time. If you are signed in, we also use a hash of your account reference to prevent repeat visits and visits to your own links from counting. These visit records and associations are removed in daily cleanup once they are more than 365 days old. Records needed for a visit awaiting automatic processing are kept until processing is complete. We do not fingerprint your device or follow what you do on the startup’s website.
A browser counts once per startup during this period, across sharing links and senders. The first qualifying click earns the points. We count recorded click-throughs, not verified identities: other devices and cleared website data can affect counting. The sender sees points, the time and which startup was discovered, never who visited it.
You can continue to the startup immediately. The button also works without JavaScript. Cookies must be allowed for the click to earn points. Your own clicks, repeated clicks and known automated previews do not earn points. We record the click on our site; we do not confirm whether the startup’s external website loads or what you do there. Points, levels and badges have no monetary value.
When visit volumes are particularly high, we save an additional record of the automatic points check. A high number of visits alone does not hold back points. The record contains the original time, startup, sender, protected browser reference and the reason for the record. Any older visits awaiting processing are handled automatically with their original timestamp, including for the competition. This check history is kept for as long as the sender’s account exists and is deleted with the account.
Statistics over time
We keep anonymous daily totals per startup: the number of personal sharing links created and the number of confirmed new startup visits from those links. The totals contain no user, browser or network references. They are retained over time, including after account deletion and cleanup, so we can later see which startups are being discovered. New records count presses of “Continue to the startup”, rather than just openings of the sharing link. Points and totals from the earlier opening-based rule are retained. The history is therefore not purely a count of click-throughs. We do not confirm page views on the startup’s own website. Copying the same link more than once does not count as creating more links.
Deleting your account
On your account page, you can change your display name, sign out and choose “Delete my account”. You will be asked to confirm before deletion. The account’s display name, personal links, check history and points history are removed, and the sign-in account is deleted from Clerk. Old links show a neutral startup page without your name and without earning new points.
If deleting the sign-in account fails, your profile and sharing links are hidden immediately. The account page explains what remains and lets you try again. Protected visit records may be retained for the usual 365-day period to prevent double-counting. A protected hash of the deleted account reference is kept for the same period to prevent old authentication requests from recreating the profile. Browser favourites and welcome preferences are cleared separately, as described below.
Favourites on your device
When you save a company as a favourite, only the company’s ID is saved in your browser’s local storage. Favourites are not sent to the server. You can remove them with the heart button or by clearing website data in your browser. They are not synchronised between devices.
The first-visit welcome
When you continue past the welcome, we save a simple browser preference so you do not have to see it on every visit. It contains no identifier and is not sent to the server. You can see the welcome again using the button at the bottom of the home page, or reset the preference by clearing website data in your browser.
Your language preference
When you choose Norwegian or English, we save the preference in a cookie called “b2c-language” for 365 days. It contains only the language code, is sent to this website and is not linked to your account or used for analytics. The cookie applies only to the current host. Without a saved choice, we use a supported language from your browser’s language preferences, or Norwegian. A link with an explicit language choice also saves that preference. You can switch language at any time or clear the cookie through your browser’s website data settings.
Random discoveries
“Surprise me” remembers which startups have been shown in the current round, so you do not see repeats. Only company IDs and their order are saved in the browser tab’s session storage. This is not sent to the server and is not linked to your account. You can start a new round once all have been shown.
When you send a suggestion
We store the company name, website, category, description, location, time and optional email address in the project’s database. Email is optional and used only if the suggestion needs follow-up. Do not include sensitive personal information in free-text fields.
Your suggestion is available only to the project’s editorial team. A reviewed company profile may be published. Email addresses and raw submission data are not published. The form asks for consent before saving the information.
Storing suggestions
Raw suggestions and associated contact details are automatically deleted after 90 days. Cleanup runs daily and when new suggestions arrive. A reviewed, public company profile may remain after the original suggestion is deleted. Keep the reference you receive after submitting; it helps us find the suggestion if you follow up.
Hosting and storage
The website is hosted on Vercel. Submissions, account profiles and sharing information are stored in Neon Postgres in Frankfurt, and the application’s server functions run in the same region. Clerk handles sign-in. Points history and personal sharing links are kept for as long as the account exists. The providers also process technical request data to deliver and protect the service. The test environment has a separate database.
Contact and corrections
B2C Trondheim is the project behind the directory. Use “Suggest a correction” on a company profile to contact the editorial team about catalogue information. If your request concerns an earlier suggestion, include its reference and describe what you would like corrected or deleted. Include an email address only if you would like the team to be able to reply.
The map and external websites
The illustrated map is loaded from this website. It does not fetch map tiles from external mapping services or send information to a map provider.
Links to startup websites and sources take you to external services with their own terms. We do not load company logos, fonts or illustrations from external services.
Spam protection
The server limits submissions using a daily hash of the IP address. Counters expire after 15 minutes and are cleared on new requests and during daily cleanup. Raw IP addresses are not stored in the submissions database.
Sharing and points have separate limits against automated use. We use a protected hash of the IP address that changes daily, and counters linked to the account. Raw IP addresses and browser technical characteristics are not stored in the points database. Counters stop applying after between one minute and one day, and expired counters are cleared daily. High sharing traffic is recorded automatically. The limit on registration attempts can prevent points even when you can still continue to the startup.
